Day 17 - I Can!
by Michael on 13/05/09 at 1:45 pm
I started feeling a change in my attitude yesterday from I can’t to I can and I will! I was watching The Biggest Loser finale last night, and in the opening montage, they showed all the contestants at the beginning of the season; there was a parade of I can’ts. I can’t lose weight, I can’t stick to it, I don’t have time, I can’t do this alone. They threw out every excuse in the book; and most of them I’ve used myself. And of course we know what’s coming: Most of these contestants have lost huge amounts of weight and they’re about to show us that they can and did lose weight. In that moment I started thinking, “Yes, I can, too!”
So this morning, I stepped up my game. I have a workout planned with my partner this afternoon; but I got up at 5 a.m. and I was out the door by quarter after for a morning walk. I love walking when the city is still mostly sleeping. I put on my Creative Zen MP3 player (I love this thing and I love the name!) and I listened to some Jillian Michaels podcasts from her radio show. It’s kind of weird, and maybe a bit sad; but when I’m listening to her radio show, it feels like I’m walking with a friend. I listen to Jillian every time I walk or do cardio. I find her voice soothing and I like her approach to fitness, dieting, and weight loss. It works for me. It gets me through my cardio, keeps my mind occupied while I’m doing it, and I’m learning something along the way.
I haven’t been for a morning walk in a while, so it felt good to get out there again. And I’m continuing to notice a shift in my thinking and outlook. A couple of months ago I would have thought: “OMG, I’ve got to get to work, I can’t take a whole hour this morning and another hour this afternoon to work out. I’ve got too much to do.” And I do have too much to do, but I also have this weight loss program that I want to do as well. And the fat ain’t going to disappear by itself. So I’m not sure what the plan is because I tend to over extend myself by saying things like, “I’m going to walk every morning and workout every afternoon.” But today, I went for a walk and I’d like to do a few more this week.
My cousellor is back from Italy this week. It’s been a long haul. I haven’t seen John for five weeks now. I miss him and I’m looking forward to reconnecting with him. I have so much to tell him.
